MAGISTRATES’ COURTS.
CHRISTCHURCH. Friday, May 4. [Before G-. L. Hellish, Esq., R.M.] Petty Larceny.—W. Olliver, H. M.Wilson, and Abraham Clegge, three young lads, were charged with stealing a bun from Mr Brandon’s shop in G-loucester street. The boy Clegge had been seen to take a bun from the shop by Mr W. Gr. Walker, who was passing at the time. On entering the shop Mr Walker observed the lad Olliver inside looking round in a somewhat suspicious manner. When asked why he| had taken the bun, Clegge said he was trying to see whether it was stale or not. Wilson was outside looking through the window, but all the lads were evidently working together. When arrested they gave wrong names. Olliver’s mother gave him a very bad character, and said he was quite beyond her control. Cicggc’s mother told his Worship that her son was engaged in a factory. She had nothing to complain of in his conduct, but lately he had been injured in one finger, and had had a fortnight’s holiday from work, during which time he had kept company with the other lads. If his Worship would let him go this time, she would look after him better for the future. After reading her a sound lecture, his W orship allowed the boy to go, threatening that if he came before him again his back should become acquainted with the “cat.” "Wilson vr is shown to have led a vagrant life for sometime past. His Worsliip remanded these two lads until a reply had been received whether there is room in the Naval Training Ship. Larceny.—William Lee, who had been remanded on the charge of stealing two rabbits, was brought up by his father. Inspector Feast said the lad had received a sound thrashing from Mr Lee. His Worship said he was afraid he would see the lad again, and if so he woidd order him such a thrashing that he would not quickly forget. He could go now. LYTTELTON. Friday, May 4. (Before W. Donald, Esq, R.M.) Drunkenness. Andrew Malhcron, arrested by constable Devine for the above offence, was fined 20s, or in default fortyeight hours.
