THE LATE TYPHOID FEVER CASE.
To the Editor of the Globe. Sir,—Your leader in your issue of May Ist, excellent as it is, does not in my opinion, go quite far enough; and I think the public have a right to know more of what transp red at the Hospital, prior to Gilchrist’s removal to the Lunatic Asylum. Perhaps you may be able to inform me how it came to pass that the two medical gentlemen who signed the certificates for the unfortunate man’s removal from the Hospital were not examined by the Coroner' at the time of the inquest? Had such a step been taken, probably more light would have been thrown upon the matter referred to. I trust that the state of affairs will not bo allowed to remain as they apparently now stand, but that an investigation wiU, without further delay, be made, to restore in some degree the shaken confidence of the public in the efficient working of the Hospital. PRO Polyp publico. Christchurch, 3rd May, 187//
