CHRISTCHURCH. Saturday, April 2S. (Bsfore W. D. Carruthers, Esq., J.P.") Drunkenness. —Henry Phillips was fined 10s, and two first offenders 5s each. Wife Desertion. - A case against David Mitten for deserting his wife was adjuourned until 2nd May. Assault. —On the application of the prosecutor his Worship permitted a charge to be withdrawn against John G-osling for assaulting James Johnson some few months ago at Prebbleton, causing him to be injured by a threshing machine at which the men were working at the time. Johnston slated that that injury was only the result of accident, and accused had done his best since to make amends. LYTTELTGN". Saturday, April 28. (Before W. Donald, Esq., R.M.) Drunkenness and Travelling on the Railway without a Ticket. Andrew Johnson, arrested by Constable Johnston, was charged with the above offence. The guard of the train gave evidence that accused, who was drunk, travelled on the train from Christchurch to Lyttelton without a ticket on Friday afternoon. Accused, in reply to the Bench, said he was drunk, but thought he had purchased a ticket. The Bench ordered him to pay a fine of 20s, or in default 18 hours 5 hard labor on each charge.
