They sail North and South respectively this afternoon. The s.s. Easby, from Dunedin, arrived at 10.30 this morning. Yesterday again the Customs authorities stopped the discharge of the English and American vessels, and an order was received last night that nothing could be done to-day. So for three days nothing has been done. It is not as if any grea quantity of goods had been discharged for many days previously; nothing of the sort was the case. All sorts of reasons are given for the delay, it being stated by one party that there are not sufficient Custom House officers to clear the goods; by another that the merchants will not remove their goods. All are agreed, however, on one point, viz., that the shed is blocked up, and that this great evil requires an immediate remedy. There must be great mismanagement somewhere when the ordinary work of the Port cannot be carried on without these stoppages. The s.s. Tui, Captain Bonner, from Foxton, via Wellington and Kaikouras, arrived on Tuesday at 11.30 p.ra. We append her report, which is as follows Left Foxton at 2 a.m. on Sunday, the 22nd inst., arriving at Wellington at noon same day; lay there till Monday, and sailed at 0 p.m., arriving at Kaikouras following day at 6 a.m. Sailed at noon, arriving as above, having experienced S.E. winds and fine weather till arrival. The Tui sailed on a return trip last evening, with a full cargo—in fact, so much was to hand that forty tons had to be shut out. The brig Derwent is loading for Sydney, and has already over 100 tons cargo aboard. She will be shifted ‘to Peacock’s Wharf to complete her loading. SHIPPING TELEGRAMS. Port Chalmers, April 25.
