THE WRECK IN PALLISER BAY.

Referring to the wreck in Palliser Bay, a nautical gentleman at the Wellington Heads, well acquainted with the tide and winds of Cook Strait, gives it as his opinion to be portion of the schooner Theresa, which was lost in Cloudy Bay some short lime ago. It is his belief that the strong southcost gale which blew a week or so hence, together with The ebb tide, would set any drift wood from Cloudy Bay over towards Palliser Bay. The Theresa was painted black over green ;> which answers to the description given of the pieces of wi-eek found, but her timbers were not of such a size that would warrant her being called a vessel of 80 or 100 tons. The Timaru Herald, in noticing the telegram from Auckland that the wreck is supposed to be that of the brigantine Kate Brain, says: —The Kate Brain left here on Friday, April 6th, for Auckland, with 1200 sacks of wheat shipped by Mr W. Evans. She was the property of Mr Keith Ramsay, of Dunedin, and of her captain (George Gay). She carried a crew of seven men, whose names were as follows: William Kohl, Charles Braithwaite, James Dempsey, Francis Duwom, James Bell. Henry Lewis, and Robert Strachan. Her cargo (includingpart originally from Dunedin). ■which consisted principally of grain and than-, was valued at something like £I2OO, and the Timaru portion was insured up to nearly its full value—£9oo odd. She was built at, Wangaroa, in the Auckland province, in 187i5, her registered munber bring 66,567.
