Tuesday, April 24 (Before G-. L. Mollish, Esq., R.M.) Vaobanoy.—John Henry Ford was brought up on warrant charged under the Vagrant Act with having no lawful visible means of support. Mr Izard appeared for the accused. Detective Neill gave evidence of accused leading an idle disorderly life, and was in the habit of inducing men to go to a house of ill-fame takeii by him. He also attended the weekly sales in Cliristchurch, and numerous complaints had been made of pocket's being picked. When arrested licensed had tll iii money on him, and a quantity of cheap jewellery in ti portmanteau, with receipts for payment qf portion of it. The detective further staled that he had seen accused selling the stamp of jewellery exhibited to drunken men in public houses. It was shown by further evidence that accused had lakeii the hqiise complained of, representing himself at the I imp as a epimqcreial traveller. Inspector Feast gave evidence of accused being the most expcrl thief that ever came to Christchurch. After Izard had addressed the Bench, his Worship sentenced the accused to twelve months 1 imprisonment with hard labor. Mr Izard asked whether his Worship would state a ease for appeal. His Worship said he was perfectly satisfied with tho correctness of the sentence, and declined to do so. DjIUJS'KKNNESS.—An inebriate, who appeared for the first time, was fined ss. I'AWXBKOKEKS' LICENSE. —A pawnbrokers' license for premises in the YVluituly road, was granted to S. Cohen.
