Mr Cairns, Governor of South Australia, has resigned through ill health. INTERPROVINCTAL. [PER PRESS AGENCY.j Decrease in th > Customs Revenue. Wellington, April 21. The last. Gazette contains tables which show that the Customs revenue of the colony lor the quarter ending March last amounted to £298,039, as against £317,711, collected during the corresponding quarter of 1876, the decrease on the quarter being £19,705. The revenue for Auckland last quarter was £l-9,119, showing a decrease on the corresponding quarter of £1954; for Wellington, £44,886, showing an increase of £3,735 ; for Lyttelton, £49,579, showing an increase of £1322 ; for Dunedin, £84,600, showing a decrease of £15,218; Napier, £10,035, showing an increase of £329 ; Nelson, £BBO2, showing a decrease of £3155 ; Q-reymouth, £92663, showing an increase of £1241; Hokitika, £BISB, showing an increase of £1727. Goldfield Regulations. It is understood that the Goldfields Wardens in conference here, with the object of framing regulations applicable to all the goldfields in the Middle Island, to supersede the varied ones now in force, will unanimously agree to increasing the size of claims, and reducing very considerably, the cost of registration., Riverton, April 21. Seventeen cases of scarlet fever arc reported in town, one of which is considered dangerous, but the epidemic is rapidly spreading. The lifting tackle of the Express having again parted, the vessel has slipped back nearly to her old position, and owing to the strong tides little has been done in the ■way of raising her during the week. Governor’s Reception at Dunedin. (from our own correspondent.) Dunedin, April 21. The Governor was conveyed to town by special train, reaching Rattray street station a few minutes before noon. He was received with the customary honors, making a short unwritten reply to the Corporation address. There were fully a thousand people about the station. Mr McLaren, with a few sympathisers, and headed by a dirty piece of calico, on which the single word “ unemployed” was daubed, took up a position alongside the platform from which the address was presented. When the Governor was about lo enter his carriage he called, “ Your Excellency, an address,” flourishing a document he held in his hand, but the police closed in on him and the carriage drove away amid the cheers of the crowd and to his chagrin. He followed the procession to Fcrnhill.
