CHRISTCHURCH. Wednesday, April 11. (Before G. L. Mellish, Esq., R.M.) Drunk and Disorderly. —Ellon McKinlay, for this offence, was fined ss. An inebriate was fined in a similar amount; Hugh Ward, 20s ; John Connon, 10s and cab fare. 11. W. Price, for being drunk and destroying private property, was fined ss, and Is ‘.3d damage done. T. P. Ellis, who pleaded that he had lost the run of his friends the previous night, and “ that was all,” was fined 10s for drunkenness. Stealing- prom a Dwelling— James Gordon Stewart was charged with stealing a pack of cards, box of matches, and knife and fork from Barrett’s Hotel. On his way to the depot accused admitted that he had taken the articles. The waiter at the hotel had seen accused put the knife and fork up his sleeve. The whole of the articles were identified as being the property of Mr Cookson, the landlord of the hotel. Sentenced lo fourteen days’ imprisonment with hard labor. Wife Desertion. —The adjourned case against John Reilly was further adjourned until Saturday. Drunk and Using Improper Language.—An information against Isabella Lee was adjourned until the 19th inst., on the application of Mr Joynt.] Breach of Roads Ordinance.— John Horler was charged on summons with encroaching 4ft on a road in the Heathcote district, thereby obstructing the same. Mr Thomas, who appeared for defendant, admitted the encroachment. Mr Cowlishaw, for the Board, asked that a conviction should be recorded. Eined Is and costs. LYTTELTON. Wednesday, April 11. [Before W. Donald, Esq., R.M.] Drunkenness. —John Peter Colson, arrested by Constable Johnson, was dismissed with a caution. Assault. —Mary Barker was charged with violently assaulting Honora Davis, by throwing a stone at her, on April 6th. Mr 11. N. Nalder appeared for Mrs Davis. This was a case arising from a quarrel between neighbours. On several previous occasions there had been cases of a similar nature brought to Court between plaintiff and defendant, and, on the 24th of January last, Mrs Davis was bound over to keep the peace for three months. The evidence was of a most contradictory nature. The Bench fined defendant 20s ; Court costs ss, solicitor’s fee 21s ; and ordered defendant to find sureties to keep the peace for three months. Using Threatening and Abusive Language.—Honora Davis was charged with this offence by Mary Barker. Mr H. N. Nalder appeared for the defendant. This was a cross summons, arising from the former case. The Bench dismissed the case.
