Terms of the Peace Protocol. London, April 2

The Ambassadors signed the Protocol at the Foreign Oilice. Lord Derby declared that its validity depended upon peace being secured to Montenegro, Russia demobilising, and Turkey disarming. Sehouvlloff declared that Russia consented to demobilise, and was willing to enter into negotiations with Turkey with a view to a mutual disarming, provided the peace of Montenegro were seemed. Turkey reported herself favorably disposed towards disarming, and reforms. The Times and Grovcrnmcnt organs approve of the action of the Cabinet, but dwell on the uncertainty of the situation, us everything depends on Russian sincerity. The Daily News ridicules tiro whole affair.

The year’s revenue is seventy-eight and a half millions.

At the Supremo Court, Kemington, for uttering a forged cheque, was sentenced to twelve months ; ilcremai, for horse-stealing, to two years; William Lose, for obtaining goods by falsely representing himself a traveller for Gibson, of i’alea, to two years. Dunedin Industrial School. Wellington, April 4

lii reply to an article in last night’s Post, commenting upon the refusal of the Resident Magistrate at Dunedin to send Alfred Lewis and Jessie Lewis to the Industrial School, it is stated authoritatively that the reason why the Magistrates were instructed not to commit any more children for the present to that school was, that the master had reported that the school was fearfully crowded, that scarlet fever had made its appearance amongst the inmates, and that the doctors considered it highly dangerous to admit any more children.

Fires at Kumara and BaLlntlia. Hokitika, April 4. Stanton’s Hold, at the Looplino road, between Hokitika and Kumara, was burned to the ground to-day. The building was insured in the South '.British for £IOO. The circumstances arc said to be suspicions.

Dunedin, April 4. The quarterly sessions of the Supreme Court commenced to-day before Judge Williams, ilio calendar comprised twelve cases of the usual class. The Grand Jury returned a true bill in every instance except that of Prank Emerson, for stealing from the person. Duncan McKenzie pleaded “Guilty” to attempting to commit suicide, and was discharged on his own recognizance to come up when called upon ; Alice Larin pleaded “ Guilty ” to larceny at Kakanui, as also William Rogers alias Charles Bradshaw, to horse stealing at Dunedin; Walter Ulmer was “Found Guilty” of larceny at Oamaru; sentence was deferred in each case.

The Waste Lands Board has deferred consideration of the question of releasing runs till next meeting. A special meeting of the Harbor Board was held this afternoon to consider a letter from Proudfoot, also one from Simpson. It was stated that they might create a sensation if published, so the Board wont into committee.

The price paid by Ellis Bros for the Five Rivers and Mcrivale estates, was £115,000. All hands on the dredge Yulcan have been discharged temporarily, the punts being unable to discharge within the reclamation area. A small rush has set in to Waikari. The prospectors’ party, of Chinese, are making from £5 to £l2 per man, but the run of gold appears as yet to be confined to their section.

The project to build a theatre has lately fallen through, as the projectors state the shareholders must purchase the site they have fixed upon, and must also accept the plans of Mr B. Smith. People are therefore chary. Meantime the Oddfellows propose to enlarge their hall into a commodious theatre, capable of holding a thousand persons. Two thousand claims to vote have been received by the returning officer for the electoral district of Clive and Rapier, but of these 400 arc natives in the Clive district. Should they get on the roll, the effect will be that Sheehan will bo able to swamp European votes, thereby ousting Ormond. Twelve writs have boon issued by the Repudiation Party contesting titles of settlors to lands holding them. Seven cases are against Kinross, three against Sutton, and the others against Newton. The Chicago Minstrels left for Gisborne early this morning, after a most successful season.
