Strange. The Easter prize firing in connection with the [Canterbury Rifle Association commenced yesterday, at the Hillsborough range. The weather was favorable in the extreme for the shooting, and generally fair scoring was made. Lieutenant Strange, who acted as secretary, was indefatigable in his efforts to make the meeting a success, and deserves very great credit for the way he worked during the day. Mr Pate, Corporal Buckley, and Volunteer Templeton being 31 each, fired off the tic for second and third place, which resulted as follows : —Pate, 3 ; Buckley, 3 ; Templeton, 2. The second tie was decided by Pate getting a bull’s-eye to Buckley’s centre. The Civilians’ Cup, open to all members of of the C.R.A. (not Volunteers). Messrs Sutherland, Times, Dixon, and Quartermaster-Sergeant Fox, tied for third prize with 31 points each. In firing off the ties Sutherland made 4 ; Dixon, 3 ; Times, 2 ; Fox, 2. The prize was therefore taken by Mr Sutherland. For the 200 yards range prize, Mr Times and Gunner Baton tied at 18. In shooting off BatoiTmadc 7 to Times’s 6. For the 300 yards range prize, Marshall, Baton, and Sutherland tied with 16 points each.
