Reid:—"lt appears that the contractor called on the Minister for a settlement of the instalment of the well known arbitration award, for which he had formerly given time to the P<ovincial Government owing to its embarrassed condition, instead of demandingtimmediate payment of the instalment that had fallen due a day or two ago; and on the occasion in question the con>

tractor, who had been "bluffed" the previous day by the alleged necessity for catching the train on the part of the Minister, waited on that gentleman, voucher in hand, and urged (payment. "I'll shove this roll of papers down your throat," said the Honorable minister of the Crown, "Do it, I should like like to see how you do it," said the contractor. " You're a blackguard to talk to me in that way," said the Honorable Minister of the Crown. "You're a double-dyed blackguard to talk to me in that way," responded the contractor, "I come to you as a citizen, and you must hear me." "If you talk to me in that way I will send for a constable,'' said the Minister. " Send for him," said the contractor, " I'll wait here for him." Waiting for some eight or ten minutes, and the bluecoat not making his appearance the contractor retired.
