THE HEALTH OF THE POPE. London, March 27. The health of the Pope is causing anxiety. INTERPROVINCIAL. THE MOANATAIRI. Grahamstown, March 29. Half a ton of rich specimens were taken this morning in the Monatairi. A single stamper has been going eight hours each day on specimens, and the result for three days lodged in the Bank this morning. The amount was 52500z5. Auckland, March 29. Peter McGrath has been committed for trial on a charge of having committed a brutal assault on hi* wife. The evidence disclosed a most inhumane treatment of a sober industrious woman by a drunken husband. At the City Council meeting the Mayor stated that advices had been received by the Bank of New Zealand that the balance of the city debentures were sold in London at par. The amount of the Government subsidy payable to the city is £2185. Wellington. March 29. Produce prices are as follows : —Flour, Adelaide, £lB to £lB 10s ; oats, 3s to 3s 6d ; bran, in parcels, lOd ; in small lots, Is to Is 2d ; wheat, 3s to 3s Gel; hams, B£d to 9d; bacon, 4d to B^d; maize, 5s to 5s 6d ; pollard, £7 10s to £S ; potatoes, £8 ; cheese, 6.id to 7^d. The Wellington sailed for Lyttelton at midnight. Passengers - Miss Brassey, Messrs Parker, Spiker, and 12 in steerage. Dunedin, March 29. The Harbour Board has accepted the tenders of Mr P. Gunn, for £2lßl 10s, for the erection of new Harbour Board offices. A new school, to cost <£36'oo, is to be erected in North Dunedin. The City Council last night sustained the complaint of Messrs McGrath and Holmes that Inspector Barnes had been guilty of obstructing them in carryingout their contract under the corporation. It was decided that their contract be carried out under the supervision of another inspector. THE WOOL MARKET. [from our own correspondent.] Dunedin, March 29. Messrs Cargill have received a telegram dated the 26'th. The wool sales closed dull, without further change in prices. The November advance was lost. Prices were as low as at the closing sales of the third series last year. The August prices for superior classes only was well maintained. The general state of the trade is unsatisfactory, and there is no confidence in the future. The quantity withdrawn is 38,000 dales, including which, there are 350,000 bales expected for next sales.
