Abusive Language.— Sarah Cunningham was summoned for having used abusive language towards Emma Waterman. Mr Izard appeared for defendant, There was a press summons between the parties which Wqs heard at same time. The first complainant went one morning for a little artesian, and before she returned spoke to her own child in a very cross manner, but as defendant, who was present, considered only at her, and asked if the remarks were intended for her. This fired defendant, and the courtesies commenced and were exchanged for some little time to the delectation of a number of other neighbours, who appeared in Court and gave evidence strongly in support of their particular sides, but of a very contradictory nature. The Bench told the women they weie sorry to see them wasting their time in coming to Court to settle misunderstandings which a little concession on either side might have led to a satisfactory settlement. Both cases would be dismissed. Mary Anne Pye was summoned for using abusive language to Sarah Cunnington. After the previous row it stems that defendant, who is the landlady and very thick with the Watermans, had gone to Mrs Cunningham's house and wanted her parents to turn out that woman, who was a blackguard and wasn’t respect able, meaning Mrs Cunningham. His Worship told defendant she had no riglr to go to the house, and inflicted a fine of 10 &hd 6s 61 costs. Selina Miller was summoned for using abusive language to Mary Ann Newton. Mr Slater appeared for com plainant. The parties are neighbors, and while Mr Pearce, inspector of nuisance, was asking complainant about some water overflowing the road, defendant came to the fence, and called her some very improper names, It was shown that defendant had

been fined on a prior occasion for a similar offence, Mr Slater asked that Mrs Miller should be bound over to keep the peace, as her conduct had been altogether provoked. His Worship said the Bench in this instance were inclined to impose a fine this time. If, however, the offence, were repeated, defendant would certainly be bound over. Fined 40s. LYTTELTON.
