MAGISTRATES' COURTS.

CHRISTCHURCH.

Saturday, March 24. (Before G. L. Median, Esq, E.M.) Drunkenness.—W. G. Pickering, charged with this offence, was fined 10s. Letting a Boat Adrift.—G. W. Badden, was charged on summons, with casting a boat adrift at Sumner belonging to Bichard Bose. The prosecutor stated that on the afternoon of the 21st instant he missed a pair of oars out of one of his boats at Sumner. That evening he fastened the boats in the usual manner, and went home to tea. Beturned afterwards and found them as he had left them, and with a view to discever, if pos sible, the person who had taken his oars, he planted himself in the rushes about twentyyards away. After waiting a little while witness saw accused walk along, unfasten one of the boats, and push it out into the st'eam. Accused then walked away along the beach, and witness went down and again secured the boat. In reply to his Worship the witness said he did not speak to accused when he saw him unfasten the boat. Catherine Harvey gave evidence of accused having spoken to her about a boat which Mr Bose had lost about a fortnight ago, and said he could have got it back, but he'd see him (Bose) d first. His Worship told prosecutor that he could not understand his action in not speaking to the man when he saw him in the act of unfastening the boat, Animus evidently existed between him and accused; the case would be dismissed.
