Second Day—March 23.

The weather to-day is favorable for (the races, and the attendance promises to be very large during the afternoon. The first event was The Handicap Hurdle Race, of 80 sovs, with a sweepstakes of 2 sovs each ; the second horse to receive the amount accruing from the sweep. Nominations, 3 sovs. Two miles and a distance, over 10 flights of hurdles 3ft 6in high. Mr H. Gourley’s ch g Kildare, aged, 10st 101 b 1 Mr J. McKay, senr’s, ch g Banjo, list... 2 Mrs Seabright’s b g Zetland, 5 yrs, list 3 Eclipse was scratched. Kildare was the favorite, and won after a splendid race with Banjo, who was second ; Zetland was a bad third. Time, 4 min 45 i secs.

Dunedin Jockey Club Handicap, of 200 sovs, with a sweepstakes of 5 sovs each; the second horse to receive the amount accruing from the sweepstakes ; the third horse to receive 10 sovs from the stakes. The winner of any handicap race of the value of 200 sovs, after declaration of weights, to carry 71b exHa ; of two or more such races, 101 b extra. Of any such handicap race of the value of 100 sovs, to carry 51b extra; of two or more such races, 81b extra. The winner of the Dunedin Cup to carry 7H> extra. One mile and three quarters. Mr H. Redwood’s blk h Guy Fawkes, 5 yrs, 9st 121bs ... ... 1 Mr F. W. Delamain’s b h Templeton, 6 yrs, 9st Gibs 2 Mr T, Logan’s Cloth of Gold, 4 yrs, 7st Gibs ... 3 Mr F. W. Delamain’s br m Pungawerewere, 4yrs 7st 12lbs 0 All were scratched except Punga, Guy Fawkes, Templeton, and Cloth of Gold. Punga went off with the lead with Guy Fawkes close up. Cloth of Gold came well to front at the end of the mile, but soon fell back. Templeton pulled up well towards the finish, but could not catch Guy. who in the meantime had disposed of Punga. Time —3min 23ssec.
