Accordingly, plans were prepared of a plumbstemmed steamer, to be of iron throughout; her length in keel, 127 ft; beam, 18ft 6in ; depth of hold, 9ft. The hull, says the "Daily Times," is of an exceedingly pretty model—a judicious combination of lines of speed and carrying capacity. The new steamer will be somowhat alter the style of the Waitaki and Wanaka, insomuch that she has a three-quarter hurricane deck and topgallant forecastle With regard to motive power, the new vessel will be fitted with a compound engine of about 50 h.p. nominal and 200 h.p. indicated; diameter of 1 p. cylinder 33in., and ot h.p. cylinder 18in.; length of stroke, 33in. The engines will be vertical, with inverted cylinders, according to the ?lan adopted by all firnt-cla--8 steamers of the day. t will be surface condensing, and trie condenser is fitted with 500 brass tubes, secured in the tube plate In an improved manner.
