MAGISTRATES’ COURTS.
CHRISTCHURCH. Monday, March 19. (Before G. L. Mellish, Bsq, R.M.) Drunkenness.— Three inebriates were fined ss, and three others, who had been admitted on bail, were fined 10b each ; N. Fitzgerald was fined 10s ; W. Hallam, fined 10$ ; W. Woodruff, 40s ; and J. Williams, alias McFarlane, log. Illegally on Premises — W. Baker, for drunkenness and misconduct in Mr Proctor's shop, was fined .£3.
Breach of the Peace,—John Henry Ford, for having assaulted a prostitute, was fined 20s.
Horses and Cattle at Large—The following persona were fined :—Hargood (two offences), 10s; J. Horwell, 6a; W. Rule, 5s ; W. Gillespie, 5s ; Thos. Aldred, ss; J. Simpson, 5s ; J, Grczier, ss; W. Foster, 6a; J. Tregeagle, ss; J. Faloon, 5a ; P*. Butcher, 5s ; T, S, Willis, ss; F. Primmer, 5s ; P. Pasche, 5a ; W. Harris, 10s ; W. Brooker, 10a ; B. Bulmer, sa; J. Wyatt, ss; O. Meares, 5s ; W, Craig, 5a ; J, Willis (two offences), 10s ; J. Garland (six informations), 5a each ; Faloon, sa. Miscellaneous.— For riding furiously at Knighston was fined 10s. and for using obscene language at the same place J, Howell was fined 10a. Eobe.t Gardner and Annie Murray were charged with using obscene language in Stanmore road. Thomas Broadbeltdeposed to hearing the man use obscene language to the female The man did not appear to be the worse of liquor at the time. The case against the female was dismissed, the male was fined 20. aad costs. For not having a light on a hoarding, Thomas Tailman and J. Ponsford were fined 10s, T, Gee, for not having control of his horse, was fined ss. A charge against Thomas Thornton, for not having control of his horse in Cashel street, was dismissed. W. Collin, fer obstructing the footpath in Cashel street, was fined 10s. 0. O’Mally, for drunkenness and indecent conduct, was fined 10s for drinking, and 40s for indecent conduct. For driving without a license, H. Zouch was fined 10s, John Harper was charged with plying for hire oft his route. Case dismissed, as defendant had advertised, but a mistake was made in the advertisement. George Simmons was charged on three informations with plying for hire out of his usual route. One case was dismissed, and a fine of 10s each on the two other cases inflicted. J. Hill, for having left his horse and cart unattended on the Carlton road, was fined 10s. A. Gee, for neglecting to keep a light burning over his licensed house, was fined 10a.. G- Godden, for letting a house in Lyttelton street, and knowingly permitting it to be used as a house of ill-fame, was fined £5, and was informed that if the nuisance is not abated at once, the accused will be liable to have a fresh information laid against him.
Assault. —Arthur McMahon and Fred. Stevens were charged with assaulting G. Burmuister, and using abusive language. 0. Buimeiater called, deposed to a row occurring in bis place on the night in question, in the course of which he was knocked down. G. West deposed to hearing a row in Burmeister’s shop, and on going there found the two accused and another man, assaulting Burmester. Two of the men were kicking him, Fred Stevens, called, stated that he was witness to the disturbance, and endeavoured to separate the parties who were creating the disturbance. He himself took no part in the row. Did not hear obscene language used at first; afterwards some words were used. McMahon was assaulted before he struck any one, McMahon, called, gave similar evidence to the former witness; The case against Stevens was dismissed, McMahon was fined 40s and costa J. H. Hazard was charged with assaulting J. Dalwood. Dalwood deposed that a dispute took place about a fare, when Hazard assaulted him, Dalwood afterwards retaliating. Fined 20s, Not Obeying an order of the Court. —Laurtz Nillson was charged with neglecting to obey an order of the U.M. Court for the payment of £1 per week towards the support of his wife and family. Ordered to pay the amount £l3 due, or one mouth's imprisonment. Nathaniel Melbourne, who did not appear, was ordered to pay 10s pnp week for the support o$ bis son in the Industrial (School.

Illegally on Premises. Charles Jackson was brought up by Constable Bulku charged with the above offence. The Bench, after cautioning accused, dismissed him from custody Extension of License —Harry Newton, of the Wheatsheaf Hotel, Head of the Bay, applied for an extension of his license to a booth on the occasion of a cricket m tch between the Lyttelton and Head of the Bay Clubs on Saturday next. Granted.
