COMMERCIAL.

The late grain statistics, coupled with advices of the collapse of the Sydney market have upset breadstuff values here, and few or no buyers now care to pay over 5s for prime milling wheat. As a rule sellers are still disinclined to accept this ligure, after the high prices lately ruling, although doubtless values must recede to a level with foreign markets. Large quantities ot badly grown to slightly sprouted lots are offering, for which 2s 6d to 3» 6d have been paid. Oats are very quiet, the market being almost totally bare of orders Barley of good color is in demand, and worth 4s 6d. Flour is Decidedly easier, and guaranteed brands have been offered during the week at £l3. Oatmeal, brau, and snarps n-m tin at late quotations. Dairy pro duce continues dm, the demand for prime butter being particularly good, and best quality is readi'y saleable at Is Id; cheese is in good export enquiry at 6d. Bacon curers report a good market for hams and bacon at 9-Jd f.o.b Business generally has been dull during the week, and with the exception of sales in a few leading lines we have little to report. Sugars have been cleared off in large lines at good prices, white crystals fetching £37 to £39, yellow crystals £34 to £34105, and yellow counters £3O to £32, i.b. Stocks of white crystals are getting low, and prices must go higher. Teas have been in fair request at Is 5d to 2s 2d, i.b., according to quality. Cornsacks —A good business has been done in this line. We hear of sales of 100 bales Dundee at 9s 6d; large sales of Calcutta make have been made at 9sgd; for small lots 10s 6d is obtained. Hennessy‘B bulk and case brandy—The demand for this line is good, but prices do not at all compare with those quoted in Other markets. Hennessy’s case has been sold in small lots at 325, and bulk at 9s 6d to 9s 9d. Tobacco—We have the usual good trade sales to report at current rates. Candles have been fairly active; prices realize 10jd to lid; Apollo’s, IOJ-cl to 10M Kerosene—We have no change to report, in this line. Crushed loaf sugar (Dutch)—Sales have been recorded at £52. d.p., in lewt kegs ; holders do not care to quit at this price, as ordinary white crystals will be fully that figure in three months time. We have to report the sailing of the Crusader and Rangitlki on the 10th and 11th instant for London, with full and valuable cargoes, consisting of wool, skins, wheat, gold, &o. [By Telegraph, I Timabu, March IT. Quotations for wheat have receded from 4s 7d last Friday to 4s 3d to-day for best samples. The falling off is attributed to the fact that owing to the high figures given at the commencement ot the season the farmers placed their wheat in the market all at once, their eagerness to sell being stronger than the disposition of merchants to buy. Some buyers only place the top figure at 4s, and quote as low as 3b 6d lor poor sorts. Merchants still report that there are not many thoroughly sound samples to be had. Oats are at 2s to 2s 2d, and barley 3s 6d to 3s 9d. There is very little barley offering, and really first class sound samples would fetch more than 3s 9d. Grain has been arriving in large quantities during the week, though not nearly fast enough to keep the country railway stations clear. Stores are getting filled in town, and in some cases storage accommodation has proved insufficient. The export work is being proceeded with satisfacorlly.
