LICENSING COURT.
CHRISTCHURCH. Tuesday, March 13. (Before G. L. Mellish, G. L. Lee, and B. J. 8. Harman, Esqs.) The adjourned licensing meeting for the Christchurch district was held at noon. Hotel License.—Mr Cowlishaw applied for a license for an hotel to be erected by Messrs Marshall and Buckley, at the corner of Manchester street and South Town belt. Ah the plans would show the hotel was intended to be a first-class one, and what his client wanted was an assurance from the Bench that if the plans were carried out a license would be granted. Of course it was necessary that before putting a large sum of money into the concern they should have some idea as to whether they would get any return. The Chairman said that the Bench were unable to do more than say that if the house were erected, they would consider the matter. They could not give the assurance asked for by Mr Cowlishaw. Extra Bars.—The following additional bars were granted :— George Beatty, Palace Hotel, three bars ; J. W. Morton, Morton’s Hotel, one bar; J. O. Sheppard, White Hart Hotel, three extra bars; B. Hiorns, Central Hotel, one bar ; Jesse Hall, Eastern Hotel, one bar.
