After luncheon Southerton got a single from Hey wood, and pent Reade for 3 to leg. Aimitage iollowed suit; Southerton cut him for 2 ; Howell relieved Reade, giving a maiden. In the next over Armitage was caught at long stop—lo—lß—lsß At 3 4f> the Engl'iGhmen took the fi«ld, Galbraitb and Cross facing the howling of Hill and Lillywhite ; (Jalbraith received a maiden from Hill; Cross then placed the first ball from Lilly white in Hill's hands—l—o—o. King:<well, the next man, waß immediately stumped by belby—2—o—o. Murray followed ; Galbraith saved a duck's egg, getting a single to mid on, but he succumbed to the second ball of Hill —31—2. Buchanan succeeded, and immediately retired, Hill taking his leg stump—4—o—2. H. Morrison, the nexo man. Murray was dismissed, being well taken by Selby at wicket—s—o—2. Reade (the captain) next appeared ; Morrison secured a single, and Hill then sent a trimmer, making Murray's bails fly—6—2—4. S. Wasney joined Uer.de ; Reade was sent to long off for 2; Hill flooring Wesney's timbers the next shot—7—o—6. J. Weeney nexr, retired to the first ball of Hill—B—o—6. J. Morrison succeeded lieade, and placed Lillywhite to leg; a single followed, and then a good hit to long off for 2 ; Hill then sent Morrison's leg stump to grass—9—o—lo. Levy joined Reade, cutting Hill for 2, Reade treating Lilly white in a similar manuer and also obtaining a single. Hill then caused the retirement to the pavilion of Levy—lo—2—l6. Ross followed, when Reade retired, being well caught by Se!by at the wickets—ll—B—l9. Yuille joined Ross and drew Hill to leg for 3, Ross following with a drive for a like number. He was disposed of in the next over by Hill—l 2—4 —26. Milis filled the vacancy. Yuille then committed suicide, hitting wicket—l 3 3 26 Howard joined Mills, the latter retiring, Hill bei g again amongst his timbers—--14_0—26. Pickford succeeded, saving a duck's egg by a single off Hill, Howard adding two singles off Lillywhite. Hill then disposed of Pickford, Stock receiving the remainder of the over, and scoring a single. Howard, after getting 6, retired, caught by Emmett, off Lillywhite—l6—6 33. Ash finished the over. A squall then sent all to the pavilion. Play resuming, Ash scoring a single off Lillywhite, Stock sending the same bowler for 2. Another case of suicide then occurred, Stock shivering hia own timbers—l 7—3—37. Smith was next with the bat, and Ash snicked Hill for 3, Smith retiring with the first ball from Hiil —lß—o—4o. T. Howell finished the over. Ash drove Lillywhite to leg for a single, and Howell scored 2 off Hill. Lillywhite then rattled Ash's timbers —19—5 —44. Heyward, the next man, got Lillywhite for 2, who took revenge by securing his middle stump next over—2o —2—46. Searle followed, being disabled, Hay ward did the running. He made a single to leg off Lillywhite, Judo taking him at slip next over—2l—l—47. The innings concluded exactly at six o'clock.
