Wellington, March 6. An inquest was held this .afternoon into the loss of two lives caused by the collision of the Taupo with the hulk Sli Whitney. The evidence of the captain, chief mate, and carnenter, also of the diver who examined the hu : k, was taken, but no new light was thrown on the accident beyond what had been already telegraphed. The jury returned a verdict that Amy Davy and child came by their death by drowning, through sinking of the hulk, in consequence of a collision with the Taupo, but that no blame is attached to the captain or officers of the Taupo. They attached a rider to the effect that the hulk was moored in an unsafe position for vessels leaving the wharf, and that all such vessels should carry a bright light from sunset to sunrise.
