MAGISTRATES’ COURTS.
CHRISTCHURCH,
Friday, March 2. (Before G. L. Hellish, Esq., R.M.) Drunk and Disorderly.—Three inebriates, first offenders, were each fined os. Mary Cunningham, arrested for drunkenness and using improper language, was discharged on the understanding that she would at once leave town.
Vagrancy, —Henry flliott, charged with the above offence, and who it was shown had led a dissipateu hfe for some time past, was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment with hard labor, Stealing From the Person.— James Johnson, arrested on the charge of stealing £6 out of a man’s pocket in the bar of the Prince of Wales Hole], was remanded until Saturday for the production of an important witness.
Assault. —The remanded case against John Gosling for assaulting J. Johnston at Prebbleton was called on. Mr Thomas appeared for the accused. Inspector Buckley told his Worship that the prosecutor was still unable to attend. Mr Thomas applied to have the accused admitted to bail, as the prosecutor himself had declared that he had been injured only be accident. His Worship remanded the case until Saturday, and said he would pay a visit to the Hospital in the meanwhile.
