THE NEW SWIMMING BATH.

To the Editor of the Globe.

Sir, —In reply to your correspondent of Friday 1 sat down and wrote another of those, "no doubt intended to be very funny style," of letters, with the sole motive, while assuming the "grave to gay," " lively," or " severe" phases, of trying my humble best to have a fair investigation made into an evil which might have had serious results, and which was attempted to be pooh-poohed by positive denials, on the high-horse system, without their having the slightest foundation in fact. Taking up my Star, on Saturday evening, I learnt that, on that morning, the Chairman of the Local Board of Health, Medical Officer of Health, Engineer to the Drainage Board, and Inspector of Nuisances, had met Mr llolleston at the Hospital; had inspected the wards and various outlets for drainage ; and, at the request of the latter gentleman, were to furnish him with a report and suggestions for temporarily disposing of the drainage from that institution. My whole object was thus gained, and were I now to forward my " intended to be funny" letter for publication it might raise a smile, at another's expense, without improving the present good, and to do so would simply be doing my own feelings an injustice. And so the funny letter travelled as far as the fire.

I have, however, two causes for regret left in connection with it—one, that I ever had occasion to write it; the other, that I paid the four shillings for that advertisement.

Yours, &c, CHOUKIEZEE, JUN.
