LOCAL BOARD OF HEALTH.
The Board of Health met at one o'clock today; Present—Messrs Hobbs (chairman), Hall, Ross, Jones, Wright, Harman, and Duncan. COMMITTEE A committee, consisting of the chairman and Messrs Harman and Joists, was appointed to consider and report on the subject of the enforcement of tho " pa*i " system in the suburbs, and what should be done with regard to renewing the scavengering contract. INSPECTOR'S REPORT. The report of the inspector of nuisances was read, With regard to a nuisance complained of by Mr Strouts, the matter was referred to the committee previously appoined. Other clauses of the report were also referred to the committee. CORRESPONDENCE. A letter waß read from Mr Robert Newton, complaining of a nuisance arising from the stables at the corner of Lichfield and Madras streets. Referred to the inspector, who said the matter had been attended to. A letter was read from the Heathcote Road Board, stating that the Board's request re the state of the channelling in Gloucester east (over the belt) had been attended to. A letter was read from Mr John Studholme, complaining of a nuisance arising from a creek at Merivale. Referred to the chairman of the Drainage Board, with power to take action. Mr Harman moved—" That a notice be served on the Hospital authorities, calling upon them to abate the nuisance caused by the discharge of sewage into the creek within thirty days," The motion was agreed to. The Board then adjourned.
