THE DRAINAGE FROM THE HOSPITAL.
2o the Editor of the Globe. Sir, —I read a letter in your paper last evening respecting the drainage from the Hospital, which confirmed my belief that the City Council have not chosen the most suitable place iu the world for the swimming baths. I can assure you, Mr Editor, that your correspondent has stated actual facts, all of which (with the exception of the dead sheep and rate) have come under my own personal observation, and which can be proved by anyone desirous of ascertaining the truth by a visit to the Hospital. Any unbiassed person must admit that the spot chosen is most unsuitable for the purpose, and it would be wisdom on the part of the City Council to come to the determination to waste no more money on it. I have been informed, or rather misinformed, that tho mud at the bottom of the bath has been cleared away, down to the shingle bottom of the river, but the so called ehinglo is so much like mud that there is no difference, and I should advise frequenters of the Corporation swimming baths not to dive deep, for there is danger of getting one’s head stuck in the mud which might not prove very safe or pleasant. I hope Messrs Hawkes and Ick will patronize the bath, and by so doing prove to the world that they are firmly convinced that tho river is not polluted by the drainage from the Hospital. Yours, &c, AQUA.
