Mining in Westland.—The Ross Guardian says : —“ We have again to congratulate the shareholders of the Koh-Lnoor Gold mining Company, Bedman’e, on the result of this week’s work, which has given a steady yield of sixteen ounces per day. Taking this average, after paying all expenses, and allowing a good margin for contingencies, it will give a profit of considerably over £4CO per fortnight, a very handsome return, The dinctors, it is asserted, do not intend to erect new winding gear until the liabilities are paid off. This determination m»y be a wise one, but it is open to this objection, namely, that if an expense of about £l5O was incurred in erecting new winding gear, nearly double the quantity of washdirt could be brought to the feeder in twenty four hours, and consequently the yield of gold would be increased in a like proportion, while the only attendant expense would be the wages of four extra men. Such a prospect is surely worth such a comparatively small outlay.” An Apparent Anomaly Explained.— Persons apparently in the possession of vigorous health are frequently unable to undergo even a slight amount of exertion. This disability is usually the remit of local weakness. When it exists, physical effort speedily brings on exhaustion. In order to supply this want of local strength, and to impart the requisite power and suppleness to muscles naturally weak, use Udolpho Wolfe’s Schiedam Aromatic Schnapps. —[Advt.J WANTED —A General Servant, not under 20.
