A young Danbury boy proposed to his father that he go fishing, but his father had other business for him that day. “ Father,” said the young man, “do you know what Solomon said about boys going fishing ?” “Solomon didn’t say anything about it,” replied the parent. “Yes, he id. He said if you spare the rod you spoil the child.” “ I won’t spare it,” said the old gentleman, promptly. And he didn’t, but the sou thinks he got hold the wrong rod. Some strange proceedings are reported from Gainsborough. The body of a person who had committed suicide was floating in the Humber, and a boatman secured it, but negligently tied it to a stake in a peculiarly isolated spot. Here it might have remained for weeks without discovery, had not a gentleman witnessed the occurrence. Hegave information to the police, but they declined to interfere, and in viewing the body for the inquest the coroner and jury waded kneedeep thiough mud. The coroner censured the police, and threatened to report the case to the chief Constable of the county,
