WESLEYAN CONFERENCE.
Business was resumed yesterday morning at 10 o'clock. The session was opened as usual, with devotional exercises and confirmation of minutes The whole morning session was occupied with the examination of two candidates for the ministry, viz, Mr Henry Ellis and Mr Joseph N. Buttle, both of Auckland. Both were unanimously received : Mr Buttle as a student for further theological and classical training, and Mr Ellis for immediate employment in circuit woik.
The afternoon session was commenced at 2.45, when Conference resumed the discussion of the case of Rev Mr Worker, which had occupied their attention during the morning session.
It was resolved that the Conference should comply with Mr Worker's application to be employed in circuit work, subject to certain conditions with respect to the funds and tha possibility of finding a suitable circuit, A correspondence was read between the ex-President and Rev Lane, of Nova Scotia, comprising an application from Mr Lane for transference from the Canadian to the New Zealand Conference. The President and exPresident were appointed a committee to conduct further correspondence, with a view to complying with Mr Lane's request. A second application of a similar nature was received from Rev J. Edmonds, also of the Canadian Conference. Messrs Reid and Morley were authorised to correspond with the Canadian officials, and if found advisable to secure Mr Edmunds.
A letter was read from Bev Nelson, of England, expressing a wish for removal to New Zealand. Mr Crump was directed to reply. A letter was «lso read from Mr Buller relative to a aimilar request from Bev J. Orchard, an English Congregational minister, The case was adjourned for subsequent consideration. A letter was read from Bev J. T. Shaw, asking that he should be appointed to a circuic next year; The secretary was instructed to notify to Mr Buller that the Donference authorises him to engage for New Zealand any candidates for the Ministry who may have passed the English Conference committee.
An unusually agreeable part of yesterday's business was the presence at dinner of various ministers of other denominations, by invitation of the Conference. Among these were the Bevs Fraser, Habens, Elmslie, Macfariane, and Westbrook. All these ministers addressed the company, and expressed pleasure at being present, and spoke in cordial terms of their admiration of, and attachment to, the Wesleyan Methodist Cnurch. The Bev A. B. Pitchett spoke in reply, and the Bev T. Buddie engaged in prayer.
