Opening of the Railway to Oamabu. —The North Otago Times says "Although all the arrangements for the through traffic :*te not yet entirely completed, wo are enabled, through the courtesy of the Railway Department, to give a pretty full outline. It has been arranged with the Union Steam Company that steamers shall run daily to j*j d from Oaraaru, so as to serve the trains. There will be one through train each way daily between Christchurch and Oamaru.Toe down train will leave Christchurch at 7 15 a.ni , n 1 will arrive at Oaraaru at 6.10 o.m , there being stoppages for refreshments Ashburton and Timaru. This gives a travelling rate while actually running of eighteen miles per hour. The steamer for Dunedin will leave the Breakwater about half an hour after the arrival of the train, and is expected to reach Dunedin by half-past 9 p.m ; the through journey from Christchurch to Dunedin thus being made in fourteen and a half hours, including stoppages. A steamer will leave Dunedin at midnight, and arrive at Oamaru at 6 am each day to serve the up train ; which will leave Oamaru at 7 am, and arrive at Christchurch at 4.30 e ra. Between Oamaru and Waimate June* t on there will be three trains each way daily, and between Timaru ami Oamaru also three trains each way. On the opening day return tickets will be issued at single fares between Oamaru and Christchurch, available for three days ; and between Timaru and Oamaru, available for two days. As the Ist February falls on a Thursday, we would suggest that tickets between Christchurch aad Oamaru should be available until Mon* day, the sth, so as to allow excursionists to stay over Sunday. Due notice will bo given to the public of the final arrangements.”
