Easiness in the grain market has been so interrupted through the wet weather and holidays, that almost nothing has been done, and we can therefore only quote nominal values. Stocks of wheat are about quite bare, value purely nominal oats continue quiet at last quotations of 2s to 2s id for good milling to choice quality. In barley a few small lots of medium quality have changed hands at 3s; some enquiries are experienced lor good malting samples, hut there is little really good nowin stock. Millers’ quotations for flour continue unsettled ; country brands are ofl'eriug tor £l4, whilst £l(3 are still asked by some millers. Eutter and cheese are quiet at 8d at old respectively. Hams and bacon are in fair export enquiry at Did in cloth, f.o.b. __ Messrs H. Matson and Co report on the live stock market, &c, for the week ending Friday, 19th January, 1877 At the market on Wednesday there was only a moderate attendance of buyers, harvest operations requiring the attention of the public. 385 head of cattle, 3938 sheep, and 65 pigs were brought forward for the week’s supply. Our entries comprised 125 head cattle, 1060 sheep, and 49 pigs, from Captain Gorle, Messrs E. M. Templar, Patterson, Manson, J. Milne, Mills, John Deans, McConnell, J. Davis, Shaw, and others. We disposed of all our entries with the exception of one line of cross-breds, at for—Cross-bred mutton, 9s, 9s 6d to 10s 9d per head; fat merino ewes, ordinary, to 4s 9d per head ; 2-tooth stores, at 7s od to 8s per head j Southdowns, at 10s. In cattle, we sold 100 stores at £6 10s per head ; milch cows from £8 10s, £lO, to £l2 per head. Tim demand for young cattle is as brisk as ever, the abundance of feed at present in the paddocks, with every likelihood of a plentiful supply in the autumn, causes all lots that come forward to meet with spirited competition. In wool, sheepskins, hides, &c, the next public sales of wool are fixed for Tuesday, 30th of this month. On Thursday, at the usual weekly sale, a fair supply came to hand, when best pelts made to is lOd and Is lid each; second, Bd, lOd, to Is Id each; lambskins, is 9d to 2s 9d each; hides, salted, per lb; calf, 6d per lb j rough fat, various. Messrs J. T. Ford and Co report on the live stock market for the week ending Friday, the 10tn inst, as follows At the Addington Yards on Wednesday last 3938 sheep, 385 head of cattle, and 65 pigs came to hand. The attendance was very limited, consequent on the harvest season, and the farmers being busy with their crops. Eiddings for sheep of all classes wore dull In the extreme, and a drop of Is to Is 6d per head on former week’s sales was the result of the market. Young cattle are still enquired for by buyers to hold over for next apring, as also are good grazing lines of two and a half years to three years ;old steers. Quotations for beef and mutton may be taken as under, viz IJd to Ifd for mutton; 25s to 27s 6d per lOOlbs for beef. Milch cows are bringing Irom £7 10s to £lO 10s each, according to quality and milking properties. Calves, weaners, from 40s to 45s eacli: nine months’ old calves, from 55s„to 05s. Store merino wethers, from 4s to 4s 9d each ; store cross-breds, from 7s to 8s each; cross-bred ewes and lambs, from 10s 6d to 13s „each, the value of this class of stock so much depends on its quality and the character of the lamb. Our entries tor the day on account of Hon E. W. Stafford, Messrs Eenn, and Parkerson, O’Callaghan, Aircrew, Turnbull, Ward, J. Gordon, Carri-on, Johnson, Green, Kobertson of Courtenay, W. b. Tosswill, Carter Eros, W. Keith, jun, S. Garforth, Duke, T. Clarkson, and others, as under, viz:—On account of Andrew Turnbull, Esq, 174 cross-breds, from9s (id to 9s 9d each, and 174 merino wethers, at 7s eacli ; on account of Mr O’Callaghan, 270 ewes and lambs, at 12a 9d each; on account of Messrs Eeuu and Farkerson, 10S9 cross-breds from 8s to 10s 3d each; cross-breds, on account of Mr Green, at 10s each ; cross-breds, on account of Mr T. Ward, of the Malvern Downs, at 8s od each; lat lambs, on account of Mr Nelson, at 8s each; fat lambs, on account of Mr Johnson, at 5s 6d each. On account of Messrs Carter Eros, we succeeded in quitting a very superior line of store cattle —108 head at au ayerage of £7 lls 9d each; cows and calves, on account of Messrs Clarkson, Dnkc, and others, at from £5 5s to £9 10s ; on account of Mr Wm. Keith, jun, we succeeded in selling a line of lat steers at an average of £9 10s each. Privately during the week we have sold 1200 mixed cross-breds at 8s each lor forward delivery, also 800 cross-breds of mixed sexes lor lotward delivery at 8s 3d ; 700 cross-breds, immediaie delivery, at 7s 3d eacli; also 20 0 merino wethers at Is 6d eaca. In consequence of the lave rains we are bound i at to be short ot feed right up to the autumn, and the turnip crop for the year is also au established tact, so we contemplate a good demand for all classes for stubble aud turnip purposes at no reduction in present rates.
