Thursday, January 18. (Before G. L. Mellisb, Esq. R.M ) Drunk and Disorderly. -—Ellen Talbot was fined 20s. Martha Brown alias Jones was fined 40a and cab-hire. Frank Guilfoyle, for being drunk and resisting the police, was fined 20s, and 2s cab-hire. George Rogers, for being drunk while in charge of a horse and resisting the police, was fined 20s. Two inebriates who appeared for the first time, were each fined ss. Thomas Cockrill was fined 10s. Stealing from the Person. James Alexander was charged with stealing 2s 6d from a man named Thomas Cockrill. Ac cused was in the bar of the Prince of Wales Hotel about eight o’clock the previous evening, and was seen to take the silver out of the prosecutor’s pocket, who was under the influence of liquor at the time and asleep. When challenged with the theft, accused threw the half-crown on to the counter. Mr Fox then detained him until a constable arrived. Sentenced to fourteen days’ imprisonment with hard labor. Drunk and Illegally on Premises.— Hugh Travers, arrested for being drunk and illegally on the premises of the Prince of Wales Hotel, was sentenced to 48 hours’ imprisonment with hard labor. Wife Desertion. —The adjourned case against Mark Kane was called on. Mrs Kane said that since she was last in Court she had not heard from her husband, nor had she received any money from him. His Worship said he would issue a warrant for his apprehension. Slaughter House Licenses. —The following applications for licenses to slaughter were granted : —Abraham Ashworth, sec, 154, Springston; Wm Blackler, sec. 13786, West Melton; John Judge, sec. 2159, Lincoln ; Samuel Lindsay, Weedon; Langdon and Judge, sec. 325, Papanui; James Morrison, Harewood road ; F. Peiper, sec. 8103, Heathcote. The application of John E. Ingle, sec. 1107, Shirley, was objected to. Sergeant Colman stated that he had inspected the premises of the applicant, and found them cleaner than when previously inspected by him. Some of the neighbours however objected to the place, and a Mrs Hill, who lived about 300 yards from the slaughter house, complained to him of the stench arising from offal which Mr Ingle was in the habit of throwing out for the pigs, That person had promised to attend at the Court to prefer her complaint, or he represented by a solicitor. His Worship said he would grant the license this time, but instructed Sergeant Colman to inspect the place from time to time, and if he found any cause for complaint to lay an information at once. LYTTELTON. Thursday, January 18. (Before W. Donald, Esq., R.M.) DRUNKENNESS, —Charles Sinclair, arrested by constable Mclntosh, was fined 20s. BEFUSAL OF Duty.— Septimus Birred, a seaman on the ship Waimea, charged with this offence, was ordered on board.
