There was a large attendance. A letter was read from Mr Webb, resigning the position of secretary. It was resolved, on the recommendation of the committee, after some discussion, to alter a resolution passed at the last general meeting with reference to ordering a four-oar boat, and to send for a pair-oar stump outrigger instead. Messrs Sharland and Harding were appointed custodian and hon secretary respectively, and Messrs Petrie and Kesteven elected to fill the vacancies on the committee, The meeting then adjourned. The Avon. —A large party of gentlemen, includiag the members and officers of the Drainage Board, members of the City Council and of the Waimakiriri Board, and others, went down the Avon yesterday as far as New Brighton, for the purpose of satisfying themselves by personal examination as to the state of the river and the progress made by the contractor in clearing it. The result, we understand, was that the river was pronounced to be in very fair condition nearly as far as the New Brighton school. Below that point it is still very foul, But the contractor has a number of men busily engaged in cutting and dragging out the weeds, and it may be hoped that the remaining portion of the work will soon bo satisfactorily completed.
