CRICKET.
INTERPROYIN Cl AL MATCH. CANTERBURY V OTAGO. The deciding match of the contest between Canterbury and Otago commenced to-day at noon on the U. 0.0. ground. There was a large attendance, and the weather was magnificent, The Canterbury captain won the toss, and elected to go in. The Otago field was placed as follows ; Cover point, H. Rose ; point, A. Cargill ; mid-on, W. D. Meares; square leg, A. Bouch; short slip, G. H. Pararaor; long slip, L E, Reade; long leg and mid-off, J. G. Nichols ; bowler, W, Morrison; longstop, Hi Rhodes; mid-off and long leg, G. A, Clark. Ollivier and Alpe were the first to appear for Canterbury to the bowling of Morrison from the north wicket, Millington taking the south end. Off his first ball Ollivier scored a single, and in the third ball of the same over Alpe lost his wicket. 1—0—1. Corfe now joined Ollivier, who bad added a 2 to his single. In a hit to mid-off Ollivier gave an easy chance to Clark, which was not ac cepted, but the ball being quickly returned to Paramor, Ollivier was run out. 2—3—7. Moore now joined Corfe and runs came quickly, the bowling being anything but on the spot. Moore hit the bowling about to all pans of the field, making 4’s and 3’s, together with any number of twos and singles. Corfe played a careful game, not scoring as he usually does. After Moore had run up about a score, he gave a difficult chance to Milling ton, driving the ball hard back to the. bowler, which, however, could not be taken, and a couple was the result. Up to luncheon time, 1.45, the bowling was changed as follows ; —Paramor succeeded Morrison ; Reade following Paramor ; Millington giving way to Morrison.
On resuming after luncheon, Moore took the bowling from Millington, who had changed ends, and hit the third ball for 1 and the first of Morrison’s for 2, A drive for 3 off the next and a couple more brought the score up to 100. Moore, whose score after several singles had been got, bad reached 76, was now bowled by Morrison. 3—105—76. Leach filled the vacancy, and Corfe got away a couple of singles. Leach followed with 2 off Morrison. A maiden by Millington followed, and then Morrison with the second ball of his over took Leach’s wicket. 4—110—2. J, Fowler then took the bat, and after some maidens Corfe made a couple, but was bowled next ball by Millington, 5 —112 place and took a maiden from Millington, and Fowler one from Morrison, In the first ball of the next over, Ashby was caught by Clark at mid-on—6—ll2—o. Secretau then went to the wickets, and at the time of our reporter leaving the ground J. Fowler and Secretan were still in. The following is the score up to the time of going to press : Canterbury.
