LYTTELTON.
Tuesday, January 16. (Before W. Donald, Esq, KM.) Desertion. Robert Dann, a deserter from the Cardigan Castle, was sentenced to fourteen days' imprisonment with hard labor.
Drunkenness. —John Carroll, arrested by Constable Bullen, was fined 10s, or in default forty-eight hours. Absent without Leave and Assault. — John Smith, arrested by Constable Moutray, was charged with being absent without leave from the ship Bangitikei, and assaulting Captain Scotland. Mr H. N. Nalcler appeared for complainant. Accused was sentenced to seven days' imprisonment for the first, and fourteen days' for the second offence.
Assisting Desertion.—John Lily, accused of this offence, was dismissed for want of proof. Breach oe Public House Ordinance.— T. Bailey, of the Canterbury Hotel, was charged with keeping his house open during prohibited hours on the night of Monday, January Ist. Mr W. H. Nalder appeared for the defence. Constable Moutray gave evidence regarding the ofTenee, and a number of witnesses were examined. Case dismissed.
