CHRISTCHUROH. Saturday, January 13. (Before G. L. Meliieb, Esq, S.M.) Drunkenness. —Three inebriates, who appeared for the first time, were each fined ss. Another first offender was fined 10s, and Is 6d cab hire. Larceny.— Rasmas Jorgensen, alas Hans Jansen, was charged, on remand, with stealing four blankets, two dheets, two jquilts, and other articles, from Franks' Boardinghouse, Manchester street. When arrested accused said he. took the articles out of an empty house, and pledged, them at Davis's pawnshop, High street. A pawn ticket for the property was found on him. Christina Sutherland, in the employ of Mr Franks, stated that on Tuesday last two beds in her master's house had been stripped of all the bedclothes. Identified the articles produced as those taken. The room from which the things were stolen adjoined the house, and was used by the lodgers as a sleeping apartment. Had not seen accused about the house. The goods were valued at £4. H. A. Davis, pawnbroker, called, stated that accused pledged the articles in Court at his pawnshop two or three days ago. Witness afterwards handed the things over to Detective Neill. There were five previous convictions for larceny against accused, and he was sentenced to twelve months' imprisonment with hard labour, Protection Ordbb.—Mariam Maolaina obtained a protection order for her earnings against her husband, Alexander Maclaine, and was also permitted the custody of one of her children. LYTTELTON. Saturday, January 13. (Before W. Donald, Esq., R.M.) Drunk and Disorderly.--A native or Tahiti, whose only cognomen appeared to be " Charley," was fined 103, or in default forty-eight hours, Drunkenness.-—David Jones, arrested by Constable McKay, and James Roberts, arrested by Constable Moutray, were fined respectively 10s and 20s, with the alternative of forty-eight and ninety-six hours' imprisonment. Absent without Leave—David Jones Cook, of Island City, barque, was sentenced to three days' imprisonment for this offence. Lunacy from Drink.—Pierson Fox, on remand from Christehurch, was discharged.
