MAGISTRATES’ COURTS.
CHRISTCHURCH. Monday, January 8. [Before G-. L. Mellish, Esq., R.M., and Colonel Packe.] Drunk and Disorderly. Margaret Guerin was fined 20s and cab hire. Two inebriates, who appeared for the first time, were each fined ss. Thomas Cock, charged with being drunk and using obscene language, was fined 40s. Alfred Woods, for being drunk and assaulting the police, was also lined 40s. Geo. Newman for drunkenness was fined 10s. Martha Brown was fined 20s, and Emma Devery, also charged with using obscene language was fined 20s and cab hire. Thomas Corcan, arrested for drunkenness and creating a disturbance in front of the Criterion Hotel on Saturday night was fined 10s and Is fid cab hire, William Phillips, for drunkenness, was fined 20s and Is fid cabhire. T. P. Ellis was charged with being drunk, and creating a disturbance in front of an oyster saloon in Gloucester street, at one o’clock on Sunday morning. Accused stated that he was not drunk, and complained of the manner in which he had been treated by the arresting constable. It was shown by the evidence of the watch-house keeper that accused was drunk when brought to the depot, and, as he had been locked up since Sunday morning, the Bench discharged him. John Collins was fined 20s. Embezzlement. —Arthur Glenfield was brought up on warrant, charged with having embezzled 13s 9d belonging to his employer, Thomas Palmer. Inspector Feast said ac • cused had only been arrested on Saturday evening. There were several charges against him, and he would ask for a remand, to warn the witnesses to be in attendance. Remanded until the 9th instant.
