Sir Donald McLean died about four this afternoon. Napier, January 6. Sir Donald had been for some few days before his death so ill that recovery was considered out of the question, but by the request of the family the local journals abstained from saying anything about it, as he was in the habit of looking at the newspapers, and if he saw in them about his illness, it was a source of vexation to him. From that time to ten minutes to 4 in the afternoon, when he died, he was almost unconscious. Now and then he muttered some words in Gaelic of a tenor showing his mind was occupied with thoughts suitable to his immnediate entrance upon a future state. He could recognise faces, but his brain could scarcely be said to be at work. His death has created a profound sensation here among all classes. The funeral takes place to-morrow at 3. Both Masonic Lodges will meet at 2, aud then proceeded in procession. The Victoria Lodge will take precedence, because of Sir Donald having been Grand Master of the English Constitution.
