MAGISTRATES’ COURTS.
CHRISTCHURCH. Tuesday, December 26. (Before Dr Deamer, J.P.) Drunk and Disorderly. Eight inebriates who appeared for the first time were each fined 5s ; and three first offenders who had been admitted to bail were fined 10s each and one 2s cabhire; Mary Holmes, Henry Lewis, S. G. Palmer, and J. Noon, were fined 5s each; T. W. Robson, and Robt Johnson, 10s each ; Edwin Stewart, and Daniel Lawlor, 20s each; Archibald Blue, for being drunk, resisting the police, and creating a disturbance in a licensed house, was fined 20s. For two charges of a similar nature, Walter Baker was fined 10s and £1 ; Charles Wilson arrested for being drunk and resisting the police at the Christchurch Railway Station, was fined 20s and cabhire. A charge of drunkenness against Mary Maule was dismissed. For being drunk and illegally on the Railway premises, Collon McKay was fined 20s.
Lunacy from Drink.— Eugene O’Sullivan was remanded to Lyttelton for seven days for medical treatment. Vagrancy.— Martha Edmonds, a respectable looking young woman was brought up on this charge. She had been given into custody by her relations, who stated to the Court the life she has lately been leading. She had been placed in the refuge twice and ran away each time and would not remain in any of the situations that had been provided for her. Within the last few days thej had discovered herjin'houses of ill-fame. His* Worship sent the girl to Addington for a month, to be kept separate from the other inmates.
LYTTELTON. Tuesday, December 26. (Before W. Donald, Esq, R.M.) Drunkenness, —Malcolm McKinnon, arrested by Constable Johnson, charged with being drunk on railway station, was fined fined 20s ; Peter Iligg, arrested by Constable Devine, charged with drunkenness, was fined 10s ; David Williams arrested by Constable Johnson, and James Gould arrested by Constable Moutray, also charged with drunkenness, were fined 10s each
