The inquiry into the cause of the loss of the barque William Ackers closed to day, The following was the finding :—“ That the loss of the vessel was occasioned through the captain keeping his vessel too close to land, and the loss of the captain and seven men is mainly, if not entirely, the result of the deck cargo getting adrift and destroying the boats.” The Resident Magistrate’s Court has been occupied from two till half-past six o’clock hearing a charge against Oalderwood for murderous assault upon Hugh Duddy, The latter was able to appear in Court and give evidence, although still very weak, his head being bandaged up. The facts as previously narrated were brought out in evidence, and Oalderwood remanded till Saturday, when another witness is to be brought forward.
