MAGISTRATES’ COURTS.
CHRISTCHURCH. Friday, December 22. [Before Dr Back and W. Deamer, Esq., J.P’s.] Drunk and Disorderly.— Bridget Ferrick, arrested for being drunk and using obscene language, was fined 20s and cautioned. An inebriate who appeared for the first time, and who had annoyed some residents in Park terrace, was fined 5s and cautioned. Two other first offenders were each fined ss, and Is fid cabhire. Lunacy from Drink. —Jacob Cox, who was suffering from the effects of drink, was remanded for seven days to Lyttelton for medical treatment. Violent Assault.— James McGill was brought up on remand, charged with violently assaulting Ellen Jordan, causing her grievous bodily harm. Mr Izard appeared for the accused. The prosecutrix again appealed in Court in a state of intoxication, and was committed for twenty-four hours for contempt. Accused was further remanded until 23rd instant. Vagrancy. —A case of this nature against Henry Russell was called. It was stated that accused had escaped from custody while standing at the rear of the Court, and the Bench allowed the charge to stand over until the following day. LYTTELTON. Friday, December 22. (Before W. Donald, Esq, R.M.) Drunkenness James Morris, arrested by Constable Moutray, was fined 10s, or in default forty-eight hours. Assault.— Mrs Talbot was accused by Mrs McDaido of having assaulted her and used abusive language towards her. The case was adjourned till to-morrow.
