On nearing the second corner from home it was evident that he had outpaced himself, and Kelly who had bsen running a waiting well judged race came up with him, and having collared passed him. Half way home, Nicholas and Lawrence also ran up and passed Mummery, but failed to reach Kelly, who won by about four yards. Time, 69secs. Boys' Bace under sixteen ; one mile ; Ist prize, 80s ; 2nd, 10s; 3rd, ss. H. Freeman 1 H. E. Winney 2 J. Tomlinson 3 Six others also started. There was a good start, Pierce leading the first lap, with Tomlinson lying behind ; at the second lap Freeman came up, and paseed the leaders, though running easy. This order was kept up until the final lap, when Winney, who had evidently been watching Froeman, came up opposite the stand, followed by Tomlinson. When turning the second last corner all three spurted, Winney and Freeman coming away; and keeping it up Freeman shot off with lead, winning by about fifteen yards. Time, smin 17secs. Coming round the second corner from home Pentecost ran up to the leader, followed by Gibbons. Pentecost collared Bosswill before reaching the last corner, passing him on turning into the straight, Gibbons here came up with Bosswill, and in the run in passed him on nearing the post. Pentecost breasted the tape about eight yards ahead of the second man. Time—s7secs, or a little over one second of last year's time. There were several misfortunes during the journey, as three of the four competitors would land at the top of the hurdle and fall back again, and perhaps in the next attempt leave the pole behind, when another return would have to be made. The race caused a good deal of amusement to the onlookers. Boys' Race, under 14 years ; height not to exceed 4ft 9in; one mile; Ist prize, 20s; 2nd, 10s; 3rd, ss. J. Atkinson 1 A. At the end of a mile Bowley spurted for a short distance, leaving his opponent as he liked. The pace was now increased by both men, Bowley walking in his old form, but drawing away every step from Grainger, who haa improved very much in style, but wants pace. Coming round the last lap Bowley spurted, walking splendidly, and was loudly cheered as he came up the straight, winning by more than half a lap, The time was not taken, but it must have been nearly 17 minutes.
