COUNTY ELECTIONS.

The nomination of candidates for the Avon riding in the county of Selwyn took place to-day at the old schoolroom, Papanui. Dp to 12 o’clock Mr Rolleston, nominated by Messrs Henry Joseph Hall and William Norman, was the only candidate, and shortly after that hour Mr G. A, Buck, returning officer, declared William Rolleston, Esq, duly elected to serve as councillor for the Avon riding in the county of Selwyn. There were very few persons present, and Mr Rolleston having proposed a vote of thanks to the returning officer, the proceedings terminated. The nomination of candidates for the Heathcote riding took place to-day. At noon the only candidate nominated was Janies yomerville Turnbull. M.D., and the returning officer declared that gentleman duly elected.
