Messrs Helmuth, Schwartz and Company advise, under date 21st November, that there is less animation at the wool sales. Port Phillip and bydney fleece show a decline of a OJd to Id on the opening prices, INTERPROVINOIAL. Auckland, November The Waste Lands Board at its first meeting conßidered Mr Broomball's application for 47,000 acres at the Upper Thames for a special settlement, and declined to grant it until it had been ascertained whether it would absorb all the land available for miners. Mr Prichard's application for 62,000 acres confiscated lands was deferred, because no price was mentioned. Mr Prichard guarantees to introduce 1200 immigrants to be settled on the block. A sample of Kaimat quartz was tested at the Bank of New Zealand, and proved non* auriferous. Hon F. Whitaker has gone to the Thames, accompanied by Warden Fraser, to institute certain abolition arrangements,
Nelson, November 28. ' The Para Para Iron Company has decided not to wind up, but to increase the capital by £IOO,OOO, and carry on operations. Dunedin, November 28. Mr J. K. Emmett opened in " Fritz " last night to a crowded house. He obtained an enthusiastic reception. The Hon C. O. Bowen is here in connection with business of his department, he leaves for Southland to-morrow. A German society is in course of formation. (From a correspondent of the Press.") Timaru. November 28. The Timaru and Gladstone Board of Works held a meeting to wind up their affairs, in view of the cessation of the existence of the Board on November the 30th, After provision had been made for discharging existing liabilities, the Board disposed of the money left in their hands. They voted £3OO to the Timaru Borough Council to enable them to improve the Great North Boad at Wliales's creek; £IOOO to the Mount Cook and Levels Boad Board to aid them in making a road from the Pareora Gorge road to the Cave railway station, and divided the remainder of their money, £3381, pro rata among the various Road Boards of South Canterbury. The Board did not complete all their business, as they are awaiting a reply from the Premier to a question as to whether the Government will take over the Board's offices at a valuation, the property belonging to the Southern district. The Board meets to-morrow to consider the reply of the Government. AUSTBALIAN NEWS. (Per Otago via Hokitika.) Melbourne, November 17. Mr McKenzie, for many years manager of the Chartered Bank, at Ciunes, has been arrested, charged with falsifying his books. A London telegram reports an advance of 20s on sugars. The publicans threaten to oppose the present Licensing Bill if the grocer's license be retained. A number of volunteers, at the presentation of prizes by the Governor, conducted themselves disgracefully and assaulted the proprietor of the new Arcade, An enquiry is to be held. The English cricketers are to leave for Sydney on the 27th. A rich silver mine has been discovered near Penguin Creek, Tasmania. All the other news is anticipated.
