CRICKET.

The M.C.C.C. commenced their match of Eleven against Twenty-two. The former were the first in the field, and quickly disposed of their opponents for the small score of 61. Only two of the Twenty-two succeeded in making double figures—namely, Fairhurst and Holt. The former made a few nice drives, and no doubt with practice will in time develope into a good cricketer. The bowling analysis of Ashby is particularly good, although at times it was not on the wicket. The Eleven went in and made 27 for the loss of three wickets, J. Fowler being not out with 6. The following is the score:— TWENTY TWO. Ist innings. W. Horner, b Fuller ... 0 G, Bell, b Fuller 5 T. J, Hill, b Fuller 0 A. G. Watson, b Ashby 0 J. Horner, b Ashby 3 G, A. Turner, b Ashby 3 G. The selection committee met on Saturday afternoon, and chose the following players to practice for the interprovincial match, but reserve to themselves the right of altering the players whenever they think fit:— Messrs Alpe, Ashby, Alington, Baker, Corfe, Dixon, D’Emden, J. Fowler, C. Frith, W. Frith, Fuller, Godby, Izard, Leech, Moore, Neil son, Ollivier, Palmer, 0. Perry, Beeder, Sampson, Stevens, Sweet, G. Watson, and Wood, The match committee will meet and arrange practice evenings and matches. In the above list we miss the name of E. Fowler, but understand that this gentleman has signified his intention of not playing this season in consequence of a bad knee, which prevents his running. He will be a great loss to the team.
