Messrs Miles and Co. report on Sept. 29th, as follows : ■wool. A limited demand still continues for wool at rates about on a par with those current at the clOße of last sales, but the enquiries are principally for continental account, the requirements of our home trade having been supplied at the last series. The next sales have been fixed to commence on the 31st October, by which time it is estimated that with the parcels held over there will be a total quantity of 200,000 bales for offer. The accounts from the wool consuming districts here and abroad show that wool is moving off steadily, and stocks are much reduced. The arrivals to date are as follows ; Bales. New South Wales and Queensland... 28,600 Victoria 20,200 South Australia 5,300 Western Australian] 430 Tasmanian ... ... ... »•• 5860 New Zealand 36,760 Cape of Good Hope 55,000 Total 152,050 WHEAT AND FLOUR. Messrs Burrows and Berks report on the 29th of September:— Old Adelaide wheat is generally quite free from weevil, and consequently worth 50s; but samples of new, not weevily, 495, and inferior or weevilled parcels, 47s 6d to 48s 6d, all per 4961 b ex store. Adelaide flour has, from scarcity, risen to \ 35s and 36s for superfine. 32s to 33s 6d for fine, and 30s to 31s for households, all per 2801 b net ex store, but closes inactive at the advance. New Zealand and Tasmanian would range from 31 s to 33s for 2801 b net, landed. There has been a better sale for Adelaide cargoes arrived at ports of call for orders, the Stanley (mentioned in our last) having realised 47s 6d per 4801 b net, Adelaide terms for Hamburgh; the Britomart, about 48s 6d; the Loch Ken, 48s lOJd; and the Thurso, 49s—the latter ship, however, having jettisoned about 130 bags, had to be sold on the terms of sea damaged for sellers, whieh is from 6d to is per 4801 b in favor of the buyer, and might be even more. The grain arrivals into London from the colonies during the month have not been numerous :—The Tantallon Castle, from Adelaide, via Qaeenstown; the Canopus. from Sydney; the Waitara/Rakaia, Countess of Kintore, and Margaret Galbraith, from New Zealand; the Highflyer and Loch Lomond, from Melbourne; the Crest of the Wave, from Portland Bay; and Arab Steed, from Launceston. Most of the New Zealand arrivals have been wanting in both quality and condition, and such have only realised from 44s to 455, and better sorts 46s to 47s per 4961 b, landed." Messrs Miles and Co report on the same date : The wheat market has remained firm during the East week, and prices have hardened slightly. Our ome crops, although of excellent quality, are deficient in quantity, and our requirements of foreign wheat during the ensuing year are therefore likely to be quite equal to last season, and present prices will probably be maintained for some time to come, the more so as there is a falling off of the Hupplies en passage, and arrivals during the next two months will be comparatively small. Four Australian cargoes off the coast have been disposed oi at prices ranging from 47s 3d to 48s IOJd, U. K. terms, and one cargo on passage realised 60s. We quote values ex granary as follows :—Australian wheat, 49s to 60s, and New Zealand 46s to 48s per 4961b5. Australian flour 32s to 365, and New Zealand 30s to 33s per 280 lbs net. TALLOW AND HTDES. Messrs Miles and Co. report : The tallow market has continued firm without any alteration in value, the present price of good to fine New Zealand mutton being 43s 6d to 44s 6d ; and fair to fine beef tallow 41s 6d to 42s 9d per cwt. We think these figures are likely to be maintained, as the home produce is in short supply. Hides have been in moderate request, and a slight advance has been obtained, the present value of heavy being 43d to 4§d, and light bides 3gd to 4sd. PRESERVED MEAT. Messrs Miles and Co. report : There has lately been a considerable arrival of email-sized tins, principally from America, which met with ready sale, and as our institutions are now supplying their wants, the market is for the moment firmer, Owing to increased demand, some meats in America have advanced lid per lb, which is likely to check sales. The arrivals during the last month have been—from Australia, 9260 cases, and Amerioa 26,800 cases.
