The winner of any handicap race of the value of 200 sova after the declaration of the weights to carry 51b extra; of two or more such races, 81b extra; of any such race of the value of 100 sovs, 31b extra; of two or more such races, 61b extra The second horse to receive 50 sovs, and the third horse 20 sovs, out of the stakes. The hoi ses were sent away at the first attempt to Si fine start, the field going almost level for a teaHy 200 yards. Then Southern Cross wiitl i Irish Stew d r ew out in front on the inside,, Sultan and Timothy in the centre, and Aldin ga, Kismet, and Sterling on the outside. At the stand Janitor was leading, Aldinga was close upon him ; Sterling, Spring JJack, Timothy and Torchlight were followin gin that order. The others followed in a clof te body, with The Deer in the rear. The hoi ses swept round the turn in a dense cloud of' dust, and for some time the colors of the j riders could not be seen. Aldinga was lea ding when they were clear of the turn, S pring Jack was running a close second, with Timothy well up, the three singling out from the others. Pride of the Hills, Slultan, Disraeli, Sibyl, and Feu d’Artifice wer e at the head of the second division. Be fore they reached the railwaybridge Spring; Jack went to the front, and at one time war i fully four lengths in front; Aldinga was second, Pride of the Hills had run up to a third place, Sibyl, Glengarry, Timothy, ant I Impudence were following in that order. Then came a close cluster, with a good numbt 3r of horses straggling behind. At the far turn Spring Jack was still leading and going at ■ a great pace; Irish Stew had taken second place, Aldinga was third, Sibyl, Glengarry, aa id Timothy coming next; Impudence, Steri ing, and Feu d’Artifice were showing in th e head of the cluster that followed. Spring Jack led past the sheds, Irish Stew was run ning a close second. Sibyl had taken third p lace, Feu d’Artifice, who had come up, wan next. Impudence, Timothy, Sterling, ami Aldinga, were coming after in that oi rder. Spring Jack then retired from the front, and Irish Stew, for a little i while, held the lead, closely pressed by Sibyl, who soon brought him to the whip. As they rounded the turn into the straight i, Impudence came round on the outside, Tj tmothy, Briseis, Aldinga, and Sterling she wing close behind the leaders. In the straigl it Briseis came up, with Timothy running her close. At the distance Briseis had him be. sten. Sibyl then challenged Timothy, an i passed him, but was beaten comfortably I >y Briseis, who passed the post half a length i in front. Timothy was a close third, Impudence fourth, Emulation who finished well, was fifth. Then came a cluster, among leaders of which were Irish Stew, Sterling, , Imperial, Pride of the Hills.
