ROAD BOARDS.

RICCARTON.

The ordinary meeting of this Board was held on Monday, at the office, Ham road, Upper Riccarton, all the members present, Mr H. J. Hall, chairman. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. A letter was received from the Drainage Board, enclosing one from Mr Cookson, of Fendalton, in reference to the drainage of section No 94, at Fendalton. The surveyor having reported on the subject, it was resolved to forward a copy of the report to the Drainage Board. A letter was read from the City Council, asking the rate of wagts paid to the day men, arid nature of work, &c. The surveyor stated that he had replied thereto. A letter was read from Dr Townend, reporting two cases of scarlet fever in the Swamp, Riccarton. The clerk was directed to forward them to the Central Board of Health. A letter was read from the Avon Road Board (in reply) agreeing to the footpath on the Harewood road, but declining to contribute thereto. It was resolved to refer the Avon Road Board to clause No 64 of the Roads Ordinance, and to aßk them to reconsider their decision. A letter was read from the member for the district in the House of Representatives, stating that the General Government had passed an Ac k . to extend the provincial appropriations until the end of December, and suggesting that application be made to the Government for the continuation of the grant ; ateo for such special grant as the necessities of the district may call for. The chairman read a copy of letter which he had Bent to the Government in relation to the above, which was approved of by the Board, Tenders were received for making the footpath on the Harewood row!, also for

forming the Waiararapa road, Gardener's road, and Highsted's road, when that of J. Taylor was accepted for the two former and T. Claredge for the two latter. It was resolved to invite tenders, returnable on Monday, the 20th inst, for the following works, viz, supplying about JOOO yards gravel for the maintenance of the main roads, gravelling portions of Highsted's road, Hackett's road, and the Kaiapoi and Prebbleton junction road ; also for forming and metalling the Merivale road. The rate collector's report having been read, it was resolved to sue for all rates not paid by Monday, the 20th inst, and the collector was directed to give public notice to that effect. The surveyor's report was read and approved, and after passing accounts and other routine business, the Board adjourned until Monday, the 2Q;h inst, at two o'clock. TEMPLETON. The ordinary monthly meeting of this Board took place on Monday, the 6th inst; Present—Messrs Bailey (chairman), Carpenter, Jones, and Sinclair. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed, and the surveyor's report adopted and passed, when the following correspondence was read :—From the manager Bank of New Zealand re credit account. From Dr Foster re Canterbury Jockey Club; also from Mr John Leatham, calling the attention of the Board to the state of reserve 321, which was planted with trees last year, a great many of which were getting smothered up with weeds and grass, and making an offer to the Board to cleanse the same, in consideration of his being allowed the grass. In this case the Board desired to leave the matter in the hands of the surveyor. Mr Matthew Guy then made application to the Board for permission to cart boulders off the road now in his hands under contract, instead of breaking them, promising to put smaller metal in the place of them, the Board decided not to entertain the question. Tenders were then opened for the following works, viz:—For metalling about ninety chains of the Church road, commencing at Maddison's corner, and running in a north-west direction to its intersection with the Rifle Butt road ; also for metalling about twelve chains of the Prebbleton and Kaiapoi Junction road, from the railway gates to the South road, the Board accepting one in each case. The monthly pay sheet, amounting to £9B lis 3d, was then adopted and passed, and the meeting adjourned. LINCOLN. The ordinary meeting of this Board was held at the office, Prebbleton, on Thursday, the 2nd November, 1876. Present—Messrs J. N. Tosswill (chairman), Wills, and Aiken. The minutes of the last meeting were Tead and confirmed. The surveyor's report having been read, it was decided to call for tenders for cleansing and maintaining the drains from River Hals well to Winter's bridge ; also, for metalling thirty chains of Tramway drain road from Elmer's corner, going northwards. Tenders to be sent in to the Prebbleton Hotel, by noon on Baturday, the 11th instant. The following correspondence was read—From the Minister for Public Works, Wellington, in reply to an application from the Board, requesting a continuation of the Government grant, informing the Board that the application should be made to the provincial authorities. From Messrs Austin and Kirk and {Mr W. Neighbours, enclosing price lists of pipes, &c. The surveyor was requested to call and inspect the pipes. Tenders were then opened, and one accepted for each of the following works :—No 9, forming 120 chains Hals well road, by Ladbrook's ; No 10, forming 93 chains of the Tancred and Halswell road ; No 11, re-form-ing 64 chains Prebbleton and Lincoln road, from Hazlehurst's comer, going south ; No 12, re-forming 80 chains of Selwyn and Water holes road. The pay-sheet, amounting to £217 13s, having been passed for payment, the Board adjourned.
