Captain the Glenlora, trading between Auckland and London, who has been sentenced to four months' hard labor for embezzlement, appears to have more than once previously committed similar otlences, which have been overlooked by his owners, Messrs Shaw, Saville and Co. The St Osyth arrived in Melbourne yesternight.

having passed both Houses, the Harbor Trust Bill has been nightly considered. The Opposition have several times attempted to " fitonewall " the Bill, but the Government insist upon its consideration till passed. Melbourne is now crowded with strangers, and amongst the visitors are the Governors of New South Wales and South Australia. For the next fortnight there will be a perfect round of entertainment. The new Academy of Music will be opened on the 7th, by lima de Murska and company. Sims Reevea and Bignor Poli arrive here in May. The Government have nearly completed negotiations for the purchase of the Hobson's Bay railway. Several new lines will be opened in the course a few months, including the line to the westward. The Railway Construction Bill will pro vide for an additional mileage to be under taken from the loan just launched. The new loan will give £95 5s net, the amount averaged having been £96 3s 6d. Brandies : Very high ; 30s 6d has been paid for Hennessy,B case ; bulk, 8». Large sales in sugar, but prices are scarcely so firm ; one firm are holders. New Zealand oats, 3s 6d to 3s 7d ; wheat, dull, 6s 5d to 6s 6d. INTERPROVINCIAL. Auckland, November 8. For the Cattle Show to morrow there are 500 exhibits. The horse Btock are the best ever shown in Auckland. The English cricketers' committee has been elected—viz, Sir G. Grey president, Hon F. Whitaker and the Mayors of Auckland and the Thames vice-presidents-Mr John McGarrigle issues a writ against the Standard for the unpaid balance on the fire in Queen street. The Fire Brigade has collected £SB towards the expenses of the team to Dunedin. At a meeting of the Harbor Board to-day the tender of James Dempsey, for reclamation works, was accepted. Arrived—Saxon and Arcadia, from Lyttelton. Sailed—Southern Cross, for Napier. The immigrants per the Orari are rapidly finding situations. Many have been sent to the Waikato. A telegram from Russell reports a large ship passing, supposed to be the City of Auckland, ninety five days from London, Hokitika, November 9. Passengers per Alhambra, for Lyttelton— Mrs Shadbolt and infant, Mr and Mrs Thomas and ten in steerage ; twenty-four tons cargo for all ports. Port Chalmers, November 8. Arrived—Ship White Eagle, 93 days, from London, with 36 passengers. Dunedin, November 8. Auckland has determined to contest at the Fire Brigade demonstration. Last night the Synod resolved to request that the Synod may be moved to adopt as the future name or title of the church that suggested by Sir Wm. Martin, viz, " The English Church of New Zealand." The town clerk's salary has been raised to £6OO. The Hon G. McLean will address his constituents before returning to Wellington.
