{Per Press Agency ., Auckland, November 7. Captain Leviscombe, of the Glenlora, on his return home, was sentenced to three months for embezzlement. Debney, clerk in the Lands office, has been committed to trial on two charges of embezzlement. Wellington, November 7. The Canterbury Education Board is appointed to meet at 2 p.m. on Monday, November 13th, at the Normal School, Christ church, Wellington, November 8 The cable steamer Agnes has returned after performing the best portion of her task, having laid thirty-seven miles of cable. She will now have to await the arrival of seven and a half miles more, necessary to complete the work. No advices have been received that this portion has been sent out, but it is expected to be here by the end of December. Napier, November 8.

A public meeting has been held here at which it was decided to start a company to lay a tramway from Greymouth to Kumara. A flying survey has been made, and the distance is found to be fourteen miles, over a level country, as against twenty-two miles by the present road, which is very hilly. The capital of the company is five thousand, and an offer has been already made to construct the tram for £350 per mile. An offer has also been made to lease the tram for five years at £IOO per anuum. Dunedin, November 7.

The Dunedin school committee has passed a resolution against their chairman, Mr Bobin, attending the convention, but he attends in spite of them. Hon G. McLean and Mr Macandrew have just concluded a short interview, and arranged to defer everything till after the convention. At a meeting of the Anglican Diocesan Synod yesterday the Rev Mr Stanford said a large number of persons were being driven away from the different Church of England congregations in Dunedin in consequence of the enormous marriage fees levied upon them. {From a corresvnndent of the Press. ) Dunedin, November 7. The Political Association held a meeting this afternoon, but what transpired is kept a secret. The City Council has increased the town clerk’s salary to £6OO a year. By the Mayor’s casting vote the City Council has determined that the Mayor should represent the city at the convention. Lawrence has declined to take part.
