DIOCESAN SYNOD.
Monday, November 6. The President took the chair at 4 p.m. TRIBUNALS for ecclesiastical offences. Archdeacon Wilson laid on the table the report of the select committee on Statutes 9 and 10, which was read. SUNDAY SCHOOLS. The Dean moved a series of resolutions carrying out the recommendations of the select committee on Sunday schools which were unanimously agreed to, except the last one which recommended the appointment of a certain sum from the Church Property Trustees. BAPTISM AND BURIAL CERTIFICATES. Very Rev the Dean moved a resolution having for its object the providing for the safe custody of the copies of certifiates transmitted to the diocesan registrar, which wa* agreed to. LIST OF COMMUNICANTS. The Rev F. A. Hare moved a resolution, making it incumbent on the curates and churchwardens to keep a list of the communicants at the churches in the parishes and districts, which was agreed to after some discussion. “ THE CHURCH NEWS.” On the motion of the Rev B. A. Lingard, the Synod proceeded to the election of the New Zealand Church News management committee, when the following were declared elected Clergy—The Very Rev the Dean, Archdeacon Willock, and Rev B. A. Lingard. Laity—Messrs Mclntyre, Harman, and Tanored. CHURCH PROPERTY TRUSTEE. On the motion of Archdeacon Willock it was resolved—“ That the Synod confirm the appointment of the standing committee of Mr H. W. Packer as a Church Property trustee, in the place of Mr Gordon, deceased.” FINANCE COMMITTEE. The Rev Mr Jackson being absent, Mr W. 0. Walker moved the resolution standing in his name as follows : —“ That the recommendations of the Finance Committee be adopted by the Synod.” After a lengthy debate the motion was negatived on division. REPORT OP SELECT COMMITTEE. Mr Mellish moved—“ That the report of the Select Committee appointed to devise the best means of establishing a permanent Loan Fund for Building Churches, Parsonages, and Sunday schools, be considered.” After some debate the motion was lost on division. On the motion of Archdeacon Willock, the Synod went into committee for the consideration of the report of the Clerical Pension Fund select committee. After discussion in committee, The chairman repotted progress with leave to sit again. DIOCESAN PENSION FUND, On resuming, the Synod proceeded to consider the report of the select committee upon the Diocesan Pension Fund. Archdeacon Harper proposed as an amendment, as follows— “ That the standing committee be requested to take into consideration the report of the select committee on the Pension Fund, with a view of ascertaining whether any general pension scheme may be decided by the Synod next session. A division was taken on the which resulted as follows : Ayes. Noes. Clergy 7 I Clergy 10 Laity 8 I Laity ... ... 11 The motion was therefore negatived. After considerable discussion, The Bev R. S.
